The Idaho Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics will recognize the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare’s Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP) program with the Gem Award at their Annual Meeting, April 11-12, 2024, in Moscow, Idaho.

Description: The Gem Award recognizes nonmembers of the Idaho Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics who have promoted and/or encouraged good health, emphasizing sound nutrition habits through efforts to educate the public. In addition to financial contributions, this can be done through individual, company, or organizational efforts.

Three individuals were the primary individuals who spurred the collaboration and partnership between the Idaho Academy and Diabetes, Health Disease, and Stroke Prevention (DHDSP).

  • Casey Suter, MA, DHDSP Program Manager
  • Jackie Amende Lewis, MS, RDN, LD, Health Program Specialist
  • Song Boucree, MPH, Health Program Specialist

These individuals should be recognized as instrumental in helping to advance the knowledge and skills of Idaho Academy membership by sponsoring educational sessions at the academy’s annual meeting.

Of note, funding for speakers and educational programs by the DHDSP spans nearly a decade:

  • 2015 Diabetes Conference, speaker: Kathy Warwick, All the Rage in Diabetes
  • Clinical Practice Guideline
  • 2016 Annual Meeting, speaker: Nancy Kure, RDN, LD, CDE, Pullman, Washington
  • Diabetes Prevention Program: Stories and Successes
  • 2019 Annual Meeting, speaker: Mimi Fetzer, RD, LD, Diabetes and Heart Disease and Stroke, Oh My! How the Idaho Diabetes, Heart Disease, and Stroke Prevention Program is supporting change
  • 2022 Annual Meeting, speakers: Erin Green and Michael Gray, Putting the T.E.A.M. in Diabetes Management
  • 2022 Annual Meeting, speaker: Christine Craig, Connected Diabetes Care: Value of Dietitians in Virtual First Primary Care
  • 2024, speaker: Kim Rose-Francis, Stepping Stones to Screening & Referral for Social Determinants of Health While Enhancing Collaboration in Diabetes Care & Management

The contributions of the DHDSP reflect the intrinsic spirit of the Gem Award.
