Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the 5th leading cause of death in those 65 and older and by 2050, it is estimated that over 16 million people will have AD or other dementias. Up until now, prevention of chronic diseases through diet has been focused on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer…but this is about to change. While there is no known cure for Alzheimer’s, dietary changes can reduce the risk of developing this devastating disease. Through impactful stories, insightful research reviews, and a little dancing, the dietitians in the audience will leave this session empowered to improve brain-health in their lives and practices.
- Identify modifiable risk factors associated with Alzheimer’s disease development and the connection between diet and brain health.
- Verbalize the science behind foods that have mind nourishing attributes and how to use this information to help clients add brain-enhancing foods into their diets.
- Understand how dancing with friends (combining movement, socialization, mind-stimulating activities and stress reduction) can further improve brain health and create a lasting bond with Idaho RDN’s.
