Food Service Coordinator 40 hrs/wk; 46 wks/yr – 20hrs/wk; 6 wks/yr Rate of Pay: $16.19 – $22.73 DOE

The principal function of an employee in this class is to manage and coordinate the food services programs for FOCAF, ensuring nutritional meals for all children enrolled in FOCAF programs; coordinating special nutritional services; supervising food services staff and volunteers. An employee in this class establishes working relationships with families, and may provide training in USDA policies and procedures and nutrition for children, families and staff. The position also works with the Leadership Team to effectively coordinate and improve quality program implementation. The position reports directly to the Deputy Director although considerable discretion is left to the employee in daily decisions and operations. The position supervises the work of Cooks, Cook’s Assistants and Cook’s Aides. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment or industrial kitchen setting.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Commercial and industrial food preparation, meal planning and service procedures;
Food safety regulations and requirements, including allergens, dietary requirements;
Head Start food preparation requirements, assessment and reporting guidelines;
Nutrition health services, including regulatory guidelines and effective implementation practices;
Contract management techniques, including bid development and solicitation and project management;
Management and supervision of staff and programs;
Budget development and administration;
Food industry business protocols and procedures.
Conduct program planning, visioning, organization, and prioritization of workloads;
Apply business skills to operate a food services program including food preparation and safety, budgeting, staffing, bookkeeping, contracting with vendors, and customer service;
Meet or exceed expectations and requirements of Head Start and applicable laws and regulations;
Use problem solving skills involving varied situations;
Operate a personal computer to prepare reports and monitor programs;
Work independently to complete work on schedule and according to quality control standards;
Communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language;
Work evenings and irregular hours if required;
Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions;
Identify and recommend improved methods of performing the work;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, vendors and the public, to include parents;
Provide quality services in a cost-effective manner and to recommend improved methods of performing the work;
Quickly learn and put to use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology;
Operate several kitchen appliances (e.g., food processor, dishwasher, can opener, stove, mixer) with or without a reasonable accommodation;
Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with Head Start Performance Standards and FOCAF policies, procedures and safety practices.
Acceptable Experience and Training
High school diploma or GED, preferably with Associates Degree or Bachelors degree in Food Service Management or related field; and
Ten (10) years experience with five (5) years managing a food service operation; and
Food handlers certification; or
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and demonstrated abilities necessary to perform the work.
