To provide support in our efforts the Idaho Academy needs success stories, outcome data, and cost saving data from Idaho RDs. To begin, over the next three months we need case studies and data from Idaho RDs in outpatient services for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, renal, and WIC. Members of this Workgroup represent all areas of Idaho.

Opportunity for Marketing Idaho RDs - March 17, 2012 -

The Idaho Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics & Treasure Valley Dietitians have an exciting opportunity for you! We have partnered with the Treasure Valley YMCA in organizing the Basic 5 Miler Race in Boise on March 17th. (St. Patrick's Day) This is a popular race in Boise; the Idaho Academy and TVD have been helping with it for 28 years--supplying post race food and greeting racers at the finish.

This year, we would like to use this opportunity to represent the face of Registered Dietitians in Idaho. We are giving any Idaho RD or RD Practice the chance to have a marketing booth at race end. This is a great opportunity to market yourself, what you do, and to educate the community. This would be a great opportunity for RD's in private practice, community health, weight loss counseling, disease specific counseling, bariatrics, dialysis, clinical programs, sports nutrition--just to name a few.

The Idaho Academy has made a tremendous effort to help the community and our policy makers understand what it means to be a Registered Dietitian in the state of Idaho. And, that as RD's, we are the nutrition experts. Please come help support our effort!

IDAHO ACADEMY House H&W Hearing has been rescheduled for Monday, February 20. 2012 - SAVE The DATE

The Idaho Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has been asked (through the wonderful help of our lobbyists) to testify in front of the two Health and Welfare committees in the Idaho legislature.

On February 9th, we presented to the Senate H&W Committee. Over 50 dietitians and students were there...the picture only has about half of those present.

These hearings are our opportunity to educate the exact people in our state who can do something to be sure the RD is "at the table" for health care discussions.

We want ALL of the RD's in the state to support these efforts. We are hopeful that local dietitians can come to the Capitol building. Here is the information for the House Hearing:

Date: House H&W Hearing is Monday, February 20th at 1:30 PM.

Where: The hearing room is located in the east wing of the basement, EW14.

PLEASE come and support your profession. We want to fill the seats again.

Brenda Thompson, RD, LD

Press Release for Senate Hearing

Press Release for Senate Hearing

Posted February 10, 2012
Press Release:
Registered Dietitians at the Capitol: Registered dietitians want to be the ones to take care of Idahoans. Dietitians are the nutrition experts and want the Senate Health and Welfare committee members to know that they are the most qualified professionals to provide nutrition services, including medical nutrition therapy to Idahoans. The Patient Protection and Affordable Health Care Act includes reimbursement for nutrition services but has not defined who can provide these services. Idaho has 550 registered dietitians working in health care, schools, communities and wellness and prevention. Registered dietitians are licensed under the State board of Medicine and recognized as the nutrition experts.
