Call for Speakers for 2014 Annual Meeting –

Dear Idaho Academy Members and Partners,

Those of you who have helped with annual meetings know that the most difficult part of planning a meeting is not the location or the food but finding and securing speakers.  Our 2014 meeting is a joint meeting with the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.  The meeting will be at the Quest Resort and Casino in Spokane April 6-8th, 2014, with the pre-conference on Sunday April 6th.

A committee of Idaho Academy members from around the state is working with President-elect Samantha Ramsay.  We are writing to ask you to help us identify key note and break-out speakers.  If you know someone or have heard them speak or want to invite them to speak, please send us their name (and contact information).   Registered Dietitians know most topics best, so don’t be shy if you would like to suggest a friend or colleague, or maybe you would like to do a presentation.   Remember: Everyone knows someone they would like to have speak.

The process of speaker selection used by WSAND is a bit different than Idaho’s selection process.  WSAND uses a speaker proposal application.  The proposal process is not really difficult, just a different way of putting a program together.  We are thinking it might work better for Idaho to come up with suggestions for speakers first, and then ask those people to complete the proposal.  The committee can help with the proposal process and answer questions.  We encourage everyone to think outside the box – as we did this year at the 2013 Boise conference with panels, breakouts, and key-notes.  THANK YOU!

Please get back to us via email or a phone call by July 15th.  Together, we can plan another great meeting including topics and speakers that our members want to hear.

To help get you thinking, the topics suggested on our annual meeting evaluation include (in no specific order):

Team building

Cooking demonstration

Integrative behavior therapy

Reimbursement panel

Fad diets (loved the panel of RDs)

Marketing to children

Integrative nutrition/alternative therapy

Vegetarian Nutrition – T. Colin Campbell

Food additives and autism
